HIGHLIGHTS
Mariam Melikian was one of six children of Ohan Melikian and Sima Yayalian. Both her parents and four of her siblings were killed in the Genocide. She worked for several Turkish families through the 1920's. One family remarked on her impressive ability to knit gloves with fingers. Another family included three wives, two of whom disliked each other. Mariam was eventually reunited with her sister Elmas, and lived for a time in Constantinople with Mgrdich Melikian, her sister's future father-in-law. She married Sarkis Davitian on March 4, 1928 in Marseille, France, and arrived in the US on March 30th of the same year. The Davitians settled in Williamson, West Virginia, and had six children, two of whom died very young. They operated the Blue Eagle Cafe for many years.
