HIGHLIGHTS

Khachig Melikian was one of Nazaret "Agha" Melikian's six children.  During the Genocide, he lost three of his siblings: Ohan (John), Arshag and Dikran.  His father, a prominent man in town (akin to the mayor) converted to Islam in hopes of better treatment from the occupying Turkish soldiers, but was tortured and killed anyway.  One of Khachig's two sons died in the Genocide.

Khachig's photo (above) was labeled "Khatcho," but he was also known as Mike.  He lived and worked in Williamson, WV, and ran the Melikian Cafe for a time.  That business was later taken over by Sarkis & Mariam Davitian, who named it the Blue Eagle Cafe.
